- #2 CNR crew building railroad grade between Red Deer and Sylvan Lake
- Eleven men and their outfits - some horses and some mules
- In the background is the back end of a wagon on the muddy grade
- Work - equipment - land / road construction
- Notes
- In 1911, the Canadian Northern Western Railway, later CNR, chose Sylvan Lake for one of its future stations
- When built, the station was situated across from 46th Street, where the Railside Plaza is today
- The above photo, taken in 1916, gives a fascinating glimpse into the early 1900s
- Note the men's boots and pants (called plus-fours), also the cream cans, hay wagon and the horse and buggy
- CNWR construction began in 1911 between Red Deer and Sylvan Lake
- This was a very wet year and the roads were almost impassable for the "2300 teams and more than that number of men at work west of Red Deer." (Reflections of Sylvan Lake)
