- 1899 - Hendrik Kingsep and a few other Estonians settle east of Snake Lake (Sylvan Lake, the lake) 1903 - twenty Estonian families live in Medicine (R.) Valley (Sylvan Lake, Eckville, Gilby) 1903 - Estonians (some from Medicine Valley) settle 10 miles south of Stettler, at Linda. Another group settles south of Big Valley, at Kalev. 1904 - a third group of Estonians settle near Barons 1904 to 1914 - sixty-five more Estonian families settle in Medicine Valley 1906 - the Estonians at Linda build a Lutheran chapel 1909 - Estonian School is built in Medicine Valley 1910 - Gilby store and post office open 1911 - Gilby flour mill begins operation 1920 - 188 Estonians live near Eckville 1949 - Edmonton Estonian Society is founded 1950 - Calgary Estonian Society is founded
